Aiding you and your pets, livestock and wildlife
during times of disaster
The County Animals Rescue and Evacuation (CARE) of Lorain, Medina and Summit counties are here to provide emergency asistance for all animals during a disaster. We are a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that responds under the direction of our local Emergency Management Agencies (EMA), and our county's American Red Cross. We are recognized as the official disaster response team for animals in northeast Ohio (Regions 2 & 5) by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
The members of CARE are the primary first responders to disaster incidents.
These incidents would include fires, tornados, flooding, hazardous material spills
and any other disaster requiring an evacuation.
CARE sets up intake facilities adjacent to the American Red Cross evacuation sites
and are available to assist local residents with:

All of our members are trained in accordance with FEMA, utilizing the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS). CARE provides on-going training classes in the following areas:
Hazardous Material Training (IS340)
Psychological Aspects of a Disaster on
Human and Animal Behavior
Large and Small Animal Handling
Pet First Aid
Bird and Reptile Animal Handling
Incident Documentation
