Aiding you and your pets, livestock and wildlife
 during times of disaster

The County Animals Rescue and Evacuation (CARE) of Lorain, Medina and Summit counties are here to provide emergency asistance for all animals during a disaster. We are a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that responds under the direction of our local Emergency Management Agencies (EMA), and our county's American Red Cross. We are recognized as the official disaster response team for animals in northeast Ohio (Regions 2 & 5) by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

The members of CARE are the primary first responders to disaster incidents.
These incidents would include fires, tornados, flooding, hazardous material spills
and any other disaster requiring an evacuation.

CARE sets up intake facilities adjacent to the American Red Cross evacuation sites
and are available to assist local residents with:

  • Rescuing of animals at disaster sites.
  • Arranging care for 72 hours for pets in CARE homes or at area shelters.
  • Transportation of animals to temporary holding facilities.
  • Arranging care for 72 hours for livestock and wildlife at off-site facilities.
